April 2018 Movie Guide

These are my picks (complete with the reason for my choice) for the movies
coming to theaters in April, but feel free to check out all of April's
releases by visiting the Internet Movie Database's Coming Soon page.

week of April 6

Synopsis: A family is forced to live in silence while hiding from creatures that
hunt by sound.
Director: John Krasinski
Why? From the first trailer, I was intrigued. I love when movies and tv
shows make use of silence as a storytelling tool. Unfortunately, later
trailers have already given away what's driven people to silence.

week of April 13

Synopsis: A harmless game of Truth or Dare among friends turns deadly
when someone -- or something -- begins to punish those who tell a lie or
refuse the dare.
Director: Jeff Wadlow
Why? It's Friday the 13th, so I'm glad there's a new horror movie to
check out. I have to say, though, this one seems more cringe-worthy
than I'd prefer.

week of April 20

Synopsis: Primatologist Davis Okoye shares an unshakable bond with George,
the extraordinarily intelligent gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But
a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging
monster. As these newly created monsters tear across North America,
destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic
engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing
battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome
creature that was once his friend.
Director: Brad Peyton
Why? It isn't quite summer yet, but this feels like a summer blockbuster.
Looks like more fun with The Rock. And until someone mentioned it, I
had no idea this was based on a video game.

Synopsis: When a border dispute arises between the U.S. and Canada, the
Super Troopers are tasked with establishing a Highway Patrol station in the
disputed area.
Why? The first one was pretty damn funny.

week of April 27

Synopsis: The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an
attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and
ruin puts an end to the universe.
Directors: Anthony Russo | Joe Russo
Why? It's all been building to this! As a fan of what the Marvel Cinematic
Universe has done so far and as a fan of the Infinity Gauntlet graphic
novel, this is really exciting!
