June 2017 Movie Guide

These are my picks (complete with the reason for my choice) for the movies coming to theaters in June, but feel free to check out all of June's releases by visiting the Internet Movie Database's Coming Soon page.

week of June 2

Director: Patty Jenkins
Why? In comics, she forms the trinity alongside Batman and Superman. She's an iconic superheroine, and it's about time she got her own film.

Director: Zoe Lister-Jones
Why? This looks like one of those movies I enjoy so much on a Sunday afternoon. The IMDb description says it all: "A couple who can't stop fighting embark on a last-ditch effort to save their marriage: turning their fights into songs and starting a band."

week of June 9

Director: Alex Kurtzman
Why? To be honest, when I first heard a new Mummy movie was coming out, I responded with a sigh and complete disinterest. However, I recently learned that Universal Studios is working on a connected Dark Universe, which I find really interesting.

Why? What I love most is that so far I have no idea what exactly this movie is about. I appreciate that the trailers have really teased the movie without giving too much away.

week of June 16

Director: Lucia Aniello
Why? Reminds me of The Hangover… which I think Bridesmaids already tried to be a female version of, but that's okay.

week of June 23

Grimlock in Transformers: The Last Knight
Director: Michael Bay
Why? We're 5 movies deep now, so I really feel the need to rewatch the first 4 to fully remember how we got here. Looking forward to this despite that everytime I see Bumblebee in the trailer I keep wondering to myself why they made his face resemble a sex robot.

Why? Look at that cast! I think this has the potential to be pretty awesome, and I enjoy different takes on the dystopian future.

week of June 30

Why? I'm a fan. These movies are just plain fun, and they gave us the Minions!

Director: Andrew Jay Cohen
Why? Honestly, Will Ferrell movies can be hit or miss… and when it's a hit, I usually watch the movie repeatedly. Not sure about this one yet, but I'm hoping for a good one.

Director: Edgar Wright
Why? Let's face it, this is a pretty ridiculous name for a movie. But it's directed by Edgar Wright, who has given us plenty of great movies so far, such as Shaun Of The Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs The World. There's also a chance that after her turns in Cinderella and Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, I may have a small crush on Lily James.

Director: Franck Khalfoun

Why? I believe we've been waiting for this movie to come out for 3 years or so. Let's hope it's really being released this time. I find Amityville movies scarier than most, so here's hoping this lives up to the franchise.
