Turbo Kid - review

Every once in a while a movie comes along that is just so good. Turbo Kid is one of those movies.

When thinking of how to describe the movie, the words "ridiculously fun" came to mind. I know this isn't going to be up everyone's alley, but it's just really good.  This is the kind of movie you would have expected to see on one of your local tv stations about 20 years ago on a Saturday afternoon... but with much more fake blood.

I thought the filmmakers pulled off a great balance with this movie. One minute the movie is showing you just how ridiculous it can be, and the next minute it's making you genuinely concerned for the welfare of the characters.

I can't say enough how glad I am that Sun-Ray Cinema carried this limited release gem in order to give people in Jacksonville a chance to see it.  Sure, I could probably have paid to see it OnDemand, but I'd much rather see it in the theater with a big bowl of popcorn, a bottle of grape soda, and surrounded by other fans.

While some people still haven't learned that there are bonus scenes at the end of Marvel movies and leave the theater immediately when the credits start, I was surprised at how many stayed through the credits for Turbo Kid. Unfortunately, there was no bonus scene, but it was nice to see that I wasn't the only one hoping for more.
