These are my picks (complete with the reason for my choice) for the movies coming to theaters in June, but feel free to check out all of June's releases by visiting the Internet Movie Database's Coming Soon page.
week of Friday, June 6
Director: Doug Liman
Stars: Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson
Why? A sci-fi version of Groundhog Day with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt? Count me in!
Director: Gillian Robespierre
Stars: Jenny Slate, Jake Lacy, Gaby Hoffmann, Gabe Liedman
Why? There's just something about Jenny Slate.
Director: Jorge Dorado
Stars: Taissa Farmiga, Indira Varma, Mark Strong, Noah Taylor
Why? I like both Taissa Farmiga (from American Horror Story) and Mark Strong, plus this looks like a pretty good story.
Director: Ti West
Stars: Amy Seimetz, Joe Swanberg, Kate Lyn Sheil, AJ Bowen
Why? With Eli Roth and Ti West being involved, I'm counting on this to be really good.
week of Friday, June 13
Directors: Phil Lord | Christopher Miller
Stars: Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube, Peter Stormare
Why? The first one was funnier than I expected, so I'm counting on this one to bring the laughs also.
Director: William Eubank
Why? I'm glad they aren't passing up an opportunity to release a horror movie on a Friday the 13th. Plus it stars Morpheus and Olivia Cooke from The Quiet Ones and Bates Motel.
week of Friday, June 20
No suggestions. See for yourself.
week of Friday, June 27
Director: Michael Bay
Stars: Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci
Why? I know some would say this is a crime against humanity, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I have enjoyed the Michael Bay Transformers movies. Let's hope I still feel the same way after seeing how Grimlock is portrayed. He better say, "Me, Grimlock…" at least once!
