These are my picks (complete with the reason for my choice) for the movies coming to theaters in July, but feel free to check out all of July's releases by visiting the Internet Movie Database's Coming Soon page.
week of Friday, July 4 (these will probably come out on Wednesday)
Director: Ben Falcone
Why? This looks really funny.
Director: Scott Derrickson
Why? Don't be silly. It's a horror movie based on true events.
week of Friday, July 11
Director: Matt Reeves
Why? We're all familiar with Planet of the Apes (whether remake or original), and Rise provided a great look into how that future got started. This gives us a continued view into that future.
week of Friday, July 18
Director: Jake Kasdan
Why? This looks pretty funny, and both Segel and Diaz are known for doing a good job at comedy.
Director: James DeMonaco
Why? I recently saw the first one, and I thought it was a great commentary on society. Hopefully this one will be just as intelligent.
Director: Zach Braff
Why? I recently saw the trailer for this, and it really got me interested. I think this will be a great film.
Director: Mike Cahill
Why? This looks like it will be an intriguing story about love and reincarnation.
Director: Michel Gondry
Why? Because we all need more Audrey Tatou in our lives, especially when directed by Gondry. I need to watch Amelie again.
week of Friday, July 25
Director: Brett Ratner
Why? I skipped the first Hercules movie this year, but hearing The Rock talk about how he committed himself to this role makes me want to see it even more than the trailers I've seen.
Director: Luc Besson
Why? If anyone can make Scarlett even more badass than her Black Widow character, it is Luc Besson.
