April 2014 Movie Guide

These are my picks (complete with the reason for my choice) for the movies coming to theaters in April, but feel free to check out all of April's releases by visiting the Internet Movie Database's Coming Soon page.

Scarlett Johansson in Under The Skin

Friday, April 4

Why? Not even a question. I'm looking forward to another chapter in the Marvel cinematic universe.

Director: Jonathan Glazer
Why? Scarlett Johansson.  Plus, I'm not quite sure what to make of this one yet, so I'm curious.

Director: Lars von Trier
Why?  To be honest, I'm not sure.  I haven't seen Vol 1 yet since I was waiting for a local theater to carry it (which happens this coming Friday), but I hope after seeing part one, I'll want to see part two.

Friday, April 11

Director: Mike Flanagan
Why? Ah, spring time… and new horror movies.  It seems that, while you would usually expect more of this in the fall, closer to Halloween, we usually have some pretty good horror movies come out around spring.  This looks like it will be one of those.

Director: Jim Jarmusch
Why?  This looks like an interesting take on vampire mythology, plus it's a chance to see Hiddleston outside of the Loki character.

Friday, April 18

Director: Wally Pfister
Why? Am I the only one that thinks this seems like a different take on The Lawnmower Man?  And that that isn't a bad thing?  Plus, check out that cast!

quad poster for The Quiet Ones starring Jared Harris
Friday, April 25

Director: John Pogue
Why? Wait, you're giving us 2 horror movies in the same month? And neither of them are found footage?  Awesome.  And when you put Jared Harris together with the supernatural, I can't help but be reminded of Fringe. (Love that show.)

Why? Paul Walker may be gone, but he is far from forgotten.  Looks similar to The Raid, which is not a bad thing.
