- The Amazing Spider-man Director: Marc Webb Stars: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Irrfan Khan
Why? While I also feel that it's too soon for a reboot of this character, I think this is going to provide a fresh take on the story. Bonus 1: Emma Stone. Bonus 2: With any luck, this will allow Spider-man to be included in the next Avengers movie!
- Savages Director: Oliver Stone Stars: Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Benicio Del Toro
Why? Oliver Stone's been around for a while, so he knows what he's doing. He's also gathered some good cast members, including (in addition to the ones listed above) Salma Hayek.
- Red Lights Director: Rodrigo Cortés Stars: Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro, Cillian Murphy, Elizabeth Olsen
Why? Although it's coming out in limited release, this movie has a solid cast, and after the first couple of movies that I've seen Elizabeth Olsen in, I'm excited to see what she'll do next. This also appears to be the only horror movie taking advantage of the Friday the 13th date.
- The Dark Knight Rises Director: Christopher Nolan Stars: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy
Why? It's Batman, you fool.
- The Watch Director: Akiva Schaffer Stars: Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Billy Crudup
- Killer Joe Director: William Friedkin Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Thomas Haden Church
Why? I was disappointed when they changed the name of this movie from Neighborhood Watch to the more bland The Watch, but I'll check out just about anything starring Vince Vaughn.
Why? You've got the director of The Exorcist + a good cast + an NC-17 rating. This should be brutal! It's unfortunate that we may not get to see it in theaters.
