These are my picks (complete with the reason for my choice) for the movies coming to theaters in October, but feel free to check out all of October's releases by visiting the Internet Movie Database.
Friday, October 7th
- Real Steel
Director: Shawn Levy
Stars: Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly
Why? Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, starring Kate from LOST and Wolverine.
The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) [limited release]
Director: Tom Six
Why? I think it will be interesting to see this director take the concept to the next level.
Friday, October 14th
- The Thing
Director: Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.
Stars: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen
Why? Ramona Flowers on ice.
Friday, October 21st
- Paranormal Activity 3
Directors: Henry Joost | Ariel Schulman
Stars: Katie Featherston
Why? Because the first two were genuinely scary and this not only continues the story but looks to up the ante.
The Three Musketeers
Director: Paul W.S. Anderson
Stars: Logan Lerman, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Milla Jovovich
Why? Do we really need another 3 Musketeers? Probably not, but the director is really good, and we get to see Milla Jovovich in a corset.
Red State
Director: Kevin Smith
Stars: Michael Parks, Melissa Leo, John Goodman
Why? Because it's Kevin Smith! Do we really need another reason? I'm looking forward to the first horror movie from this traditionally comedy director. Additionally, this is very timely given the publicity that Westboro Baptist has been getting.
Friday, October 28th
- The Rum Diary
Director: Bruce Robinson
Stars: Johnny Depp, Aaron Eckhart, Amber Heard
Why? Johnny Depp in another Hunter S Thompson movie alongside the gorgeous Amber Heard.
Sleeping Beauty
Director: Julia Leigh
Stars: Emily Browning
Why? It's the girl from Sucker Punch, and I think the description sounds interesting. (The full synopsis seems to be a casualty of IMDb's site reformat, but you can read it here.)
