After seeing Gran Torino this afternoon, I can definitely see why it was #1 at the box off when it debuted last week and only slipped to #2 this week. It's an awesome movie. It's just great! Clint Eastwood is one of the few recognizable faces in the movie, but it really doesn't matter. You probably could've made the same movie with him and a bunch of mannequins because you're really just waiting to see how he's going to react to everyone. "Is he talking to the dog again? What did he just say to the dog??"
But seriously, the movie was really amazing. The story is a roller coaster of emotion and character development. It's not a crazy ride, mind you. It's the peaks and valleys that you need to tell a fantastic story. Clint Eastwood's character is a perfectly flawed, racist bastard with a heart of gold... or at least silver. He somehow manages to spout racist slurs while at the same time not treating the targets of his verbal abuse as less than human. In some cases, he's even verbally slighting those he is helping out. It's quite amusing to watch it all come together.
Honestly, though, words fail to accurately convey how I feel about this movie. It's just that awesome. GO SEE IT!
